You step off the plane, curious and excited,
feeling a flutter in your heart, an awakening of your senses.
Fragrance lingers in the air.
Breathe it in, letting the rich new scents welcome you.
The call to prayer kisses your ears
and you are swept away by the enchanting sound.
Your eyes are delighted by the geometric patterns and colours
that meet you on every turn on this captivating journey.
ancient flavours and delicious cuisine.
reflecting back at you in all that is splendid and divine.
This is an invitation to join me as we journey through magical Morocco, using our senses to unearth new insights and inspirations. We will follow the ancient trade routes across the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech to the Sahara, exploring the traditional Amazigh (Berber) culture and traditions of Morocco.
We will use cameras, or smart phones (optional), paper, journals, pens, paint, needle and thread, markers or whatever tools call to you. Artistic experience of all levels welcome, from novice to expert!
Throughout the journey I will guide you to build a bespoke, unique-to-you travel guidebook/bundle of your trip. As we document our time here together, using sight, smell, sound, touch, taste and intuition in our daily writings, inspirational photo walks, prompts and exercises, we will incorporate what speaks to our individual “inner artist”, with ephemera, marks, sketches and collages we make along the way.
My hope is for you to create something that evokes meaning, inspiration and discovery for your artist gypsy soul to enjoy again and again in both your life and your (hopefully) continued home studio practice. Please bring your open-hearted artist (or your shy/dormant open-hearted artist). Add a sense of adventure, and let Kamal and I take care of the rest!
Give yourself this gift of creative exploration to journey through your senses and access your artist’s soul.

Note: Each morning you’ll receive an itinerary for the day. On non-travel days I will lead you on photo wanders in the early mornings where you can capture sights and scenes as the city awakens. Dinners on your own on days 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12
DAY 1: Our car will pick you up at the Marrakech Menara Airport to take you to our riad (hotel), which is a lovely guest house nestled in the ancient labyrinth of the medina in the old part of Marrakech. You’ll have free time to refresh before we join together as a group at 7 pm for our welcome dinner and introductions.
DAYS 2 & 3: We’ll explore Marrakech with a local guide – its labyrinths of souks and alleyways, the patterns, the colours, the architecture. We’ll visit beautiful mosques and madras; visit the exquisite Les Jardins Majorelle; and view the Yves St Laurent private collection at the new Musée Berbére including regional Amazigh (Berber) costumes, jewellery and carpets. At the Ensemble Artisanal we will see the production of traditional crafts including embroidery, weaving, basket-making and felt works. Your evenings will be free to dine as you choose.
DAY 4: We will begin our journey in a deluxe air-con van, taking the Tizi n’ Tichka pass through the High Atlas Mountains into the Sahara. The natural landscape changes constantly and you’ll see incredible jaw-dropping views. Along the way we’ll explore ancient Kasbahs as we traverse this diverse and magical land. We will settle into our private riad for the night. Dinner at your leisure in the riad’s dining room.
Day 5: After breakfast we’ll travel to a village where local artisans will teach us their process of natural dying and weaving of carpets. After lunch we will make our way to Foum Zguid, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, where we’ll settle in. You’ll have the evening free for dinner and activities of your choosing.
DAYS 6 & 7: We’re headed into the Sahara and our stunning luxurious camp for the next 2 days. On route we will stop at a local Nomad school where you can meet the children and see how some people still live a very simple happy life. We’ll dine on fabulous cuisine, and enjoy a group camel trek (safe and fun) and guided photo wanders. We’ll listen to live hypnotic desert music around the fire under star-filled skies. The Sahara is magical, and I want to share its profound gifts with you.
Days 8, 9, 10: We will take our deluxe 4×4’s through the desert to arrive at our home base for the next 3 nights: Kasbah Ait isfoul. We will spend our time enjoying the beautiful Oasis and Kasbah, immersing ourselves in the local environment with a pottery workshop, jewelry class, drumming class, and cooking with the locals.
DAYS 11 & 12: We journey back to Marrakech. After lunch we have a guided tour of the picturesque and infamous Ait Ben Haddou, a familiar and stunning sight used on many movie sets. We’ll check into our riad for the evening where you can enjoy a spectacular sunset, dinner and free time on your own. The next morning after breakfast we will drive thought the majestic mountain pass and stop for lunch. When we arrive at the Riad in Marrakech, the rest of the afternoon and evening will be on your own to explore, journal or relax.
DAY 13: After breakfast and our final photo wander, we will gather together for a guided shopping day within the souks as well as some favourites shops of mine outside of the medina. We will help you source what is on your list as well as well as help you have your packages wrapped and shipped home if you require. We will have a fun group lunch at a local spot and continue shopping until returning to our Riad to relax and get ready for our Farewell group dinner filled with fabulous Moroccan delights and surprises.
